Additive SWEEP issue

Post by GenFi »

Good morning everyone I'm trying to get a sweep between these two circular sections. The problem is that I can't define it between the edges, which are not symmetrical !!!! Some suggestions???

Thank you

you need a feature (or better an option) that FC doesn't have: a loft guided by paths

i discussed this feature request here:

viewtopic.php?t=76467&start=20

the best outcome is by surface modelling:

1) you have to design 1/4 of object
2) mirror it 4 time around the axis
3) join the 4 surfaces into an only one
4) make the closing flat surfaces (the upper and lower ones)
5) join the 3 surfaces into an only one
6) solidify it

but you have another limitation the tools to create the surfaces (fill boundary curves) accepts only 4 edges, so the sketch with more than one entity (a line and an arc for example) is not valid so you can't use it. the other tool (fills) that accepts more edges creates unfortunately incorrect surfaces

Indeed. But there should be some workaround. Maybe the multisection option in PartDesign AdditivePipe ?

Possible options...??

Curves workbench Pipe shell.

Curved shapes workbench Curved Path Array.

@NewJoker @drmacro

unfortunately no of them gives the wished outcome. you need the ability to manage how a section turn into another one/s you following the guided paths. this ability is still missing in FC, i tried with solidworks and you make such work in a moment

Thank you all. I also tried with Curved shapes workbench Curved Path Array, but to no avail. Yes I know, with SW and CATIA are functions that are obtained in a click, but the fact that you can not do in Freecad very disappointing, we are not talking about spatial modeling.

yes ...

currently we have only the hope that this feature request can be implemented and doesn't fall on deaf ears

I think you can do a lot better with a little bit of work.

Add more sections and play with the various parameters. The image is a very quick sample.

(You file construction technique is a complete mess, but that is a different topic. )

The construction is not too bad with Gordon surf's...

(I got rid of the distracting Datum planes as well...)

But, I've been told it can't be done in Curves or Surfaces workbenches.
