I have a model for the base of a push stick which has a dado along its upper surface to receive the handle. My problem has been in finding the right tool path to cut the groove. The solution I ended up with is use the pocket tool to remove most of the material followed by the profiling tool to clean out the the waste left at the ends of the groove. This works in the simulator but seems like such a kludge that I'm sure there's a simpler more direct approach to what must be a common CNC operation. Grateful for any pointers in the right direction.

The Pocket Operation is a viable one step solution if you set Extensions
Select the Check Boxes and set Default Length to any value to suit clean up, select the blue symbol and enter your preferred extra area ( The pinkish area gives a visual of the active extensions )

Perfect! I'd been messing about with the pass extension in the operation panel and should have explored the extension option but missed it. I'll know better next time. Thank you.
