Also, don't forget that the render workbench just doesn't work that well for everyone. I'm not computer illiterate by any stretch and struggled to get any of the render options to work properly on my linux system. I ended up just giving up on it and moving on to something else.

I think the splashscreen should show what is possible with the software. Render workbench has like 3 issues on github. And one of those I made yesterday.
And yes compiling cycles stand alone is way too difficult for normal users.
But you can get an oldwindows version from my github https://github.com/MisterMakerNL/Cycles ... dows-build

Just a reminder, the deadline is today, by the end of the day! (any post dated after may 31st will not be considered).

If you encounter any trouble using Render WB, do not hesitate to open an issue on Github or in a forum post. I'll do my best to find a solution, as it is always a pleasure to help users and improve the code. Many new features came from user remarks, many things are still possible except one: I cannot guess user issues if they are not explicitely expressedobelisk79 wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 2:26 am Also, don't forget that the render workbench just doesn't work that well for everyone. I'm not sure they will. Question was already discussed (https://devtalk.blender.org/t/building- ... e/17861/30, for instance), but Cycles Standalone is not considered as an official feature by Blender devs and they redirect to Blender.easyw-fc wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 9:48 am+1nelsonstoldt wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 12:54 am Now if the nice people over at Blender would provide a version of the Standalone Cycles Engine that could be included with the render workbench in a FreeCAD installation, that would be fabulous.
But is it really a problem? There are several other high-quality raytracing engines: Luxcore, Ospray, Appleseed... and they ship binaries for all platforms. Just give them a try with Render WB, you'll be amazed and you will forget about Cycles:

If a rendered image is included on the splashscreen we could add some fine print to it like "Rendered with the Render Workbench addon using the whatever engine"
Alone you go faster. Together we go farther
