FreeCAD Hackathon 2023 - Vancouver & Virtual, 11-13 August, 2023

Background: We had an excellent FreeCAD Day developer and user meetup in Brussels in February 2023, and the overall consensus from attendees was that we should do it again, and do even more meetups of that sort. So, to that end (and to spread out around the globe a bit, to make it easier for people to attend an event)...

A group of FreeCAD Maintainers is proposing a FreeCAD "Hackathon" in Vancouver, BC this coming August, from Friday 11 August to Sunday 13 August. We anticipate that there will be some travel funding available (much as there was for travel to Brussels), but before the FreeCAD Project Association starts voting on such things we want your feedback on such an event. Are you interested in attending? What sort of schedule works best for you? Any venue suggestions from locals?

I really like the idea, is there a chance of doing it in the US?

Not this year -- we want to be able to have attendees from India, and it's too late for them to get US Visas. Hopefully this can become an annual event, in which case I certainly hope we can have it move around.

Is that foreseen that it can be attended online too?

Yes, I think we'll do some kind of virtual component: I don't quite know what that will look like, though, so feel free to make suggestions!

Yeah! I am interested. In India, US tourist visa waiting time is more than a year (~440 days), plus I have a strange consular interview experience this year. So, traveling to US not to be easy from India.

Well, I've booked flights to Vancouver for that weekend, so I'm going to be there . We haven't chosen a final hotel yet, we're still working on that, but the Hackathon itself is a go.
