In the past someone once told me that a lazy engineer is a good engineer.
Never heard that. Also in my experience it is the opposite. The only dictum i know ,which sound similar, is that a lazy (mechanical or electrical) maintenance worker is a "good" worker, because the machines runs. Also it is only a dictum, nothing more.

even then you need to iterate, iterate, iterate
Iterate is one of the important things while engineering. Because an engineer was too lazy to iterate (would take lesser then 1/2h), i had 2 times 80h weeks before and while christmas, all with scars, chrome dust in lungs, pulled muscles and bruises included, besides the very high costs (because of loss of profit because the machine does not run and much more erection costs). From all other crap because too lazy to be not iterate i will not talk, it is insane. To think that a very good thoughtful start is the solution is far from any reality, besides that circumstances change always.

Malfunctions? What is the name of the software you are referring to?
(Mal)functions. It should be functions, but in realty they all crap. CreoDM, the worst crap. Everything in CAD, that is not defined and fixed with constraints, is not engineering. Pulling and pushing geometry is literately painting, nothing more.
