Monthly developers meeting - next meeting: TBD

Post by yorik »

Hi all,

With @chennes, @sliptonic and @wandererfan we thought we should set up an online developers meeting. Many dev are asking for it. At Blender they have such a meeting that happens weekly, and it is great, devs use to show what they are working on, people can ask questions, etc.

We did one earlier this month with only the FreeCAD maintainers, just to discuss how to set things up, and we propose the following:

The meeting will happen each first Sunday of the month. We decided on the weekend because many devs here have a day job and can hardly attend something during the week, even more because because of the different time zones it would inevitably fall in working hours for some. The meeting will happen at 16h30 UTC / 18h30 Central Europe time (currently summertime) / 11h30 Central US time (currently summertime). We expect it to last for about an hour. The time can be adjusted if needed, but this seemed a good compromise to start with.

So next meeting will be on Sunday May 7th.

The meeting happens on the meetjitsi platform, at https://meet.jit.si/FreeCAD-devs-meeting Anybody is welcome, you can just come and watch, no need to say anything or turn your camera on if you don't want to :)

We'll try to maintain the duration to within one hour, to not eat a lot of people's well earned sunday. To help with that, we have set an agenda at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1r-H ... iuXV8/edit . If you wish to talk about a particular subject during the meeting, please write it on the agenda before starting. We will follow the agenda and anything that was not on the agenda will be left for the end, if time permits.

There will always be one person designated to take notes of what is being said, and post a summary here after the meeting ends.

So, hope to see you there!

Cheers
Yorik

Good initiative.

But as noted by @chrisb title is wrong!

For some of us the meeting time is 3am Monday, so good information is needed to decide attendance. It woud be most useful if agenda items describe purpose and intent, rather than just e.g.
C++ unit testing framework
and
Developer’s Handbook
Separately, is there intent to make later replay available?

+1 for 3AM and a replay, or at least being able to see the meeting notes.

Let's use this thread to find a better moment! Not sure if it's better earlier or later... What about 23h00 CET / 16h00 CST / 07h00 berniev's time?

Thanks for consideration, but there's likely not so many on UTC+10 to justify inconvenience for Euro and US.

Very important though IMO is the agenda clearly spells out the reason for each item and what results are sought. Unfortunately most of us are not mind readers and do not like surprises or wasting time!

Is it too much to ask to be properly informed beforehand so attendance can be decided (relevance), and having decided to participate, to be properly prepared?

Maybe just noise but how about 18h CE(S)T [11h CS(D)T]? So if it lasts for 1-1.5h, everyone should be good for family lunch/dinner.

Ok for me! Anyone against it, or prefers any of the former options?
