Best way to unfold/unwrap surface (non ruled I believe)

Post by Riccds »

Hi all, I have the part displayed in the image I attach. I would like to extract the lateral curved surface, or only 0° to 180° for example, and unfold it on a plane so that I can print it on "paper"(actually plastic film), cut it out and try to fold it the way it is on the picture. I think I understand that this shape is not really unwrappable. But is there a way I can approximate the unwarpping to some decent extent?

Thanks

Select the face.
Select the Mesh workbench
In the Mesh menu there is a Unwrap face tool.

Try to unwrap it in mesh workbench.

@drmacro @chrisb yes, works, was easy thanks. I think it's hampered by massive distorsion however. I mean its probably a characteristic of the surface and will be hard to fold this if not dividing it in very small segments, like 45° span each or even less.
