No sketch projection, but sketch wrap (tongue drum)
Look picture:
Now I'm experimentating with the 'Sketch on Surface' in the curved workbench, but I don't really know whats going on. You have a very little rectangle to draw in.
The shapes should not be projected, but 'shrink' wrapped, 'projection' on surface in the part workbench I can't use. The sketch should be on top and then wrapped down on to the shape. I need it this way, because the length of the shapes are important for the the tone height so they should be consistend. Appreciate any help.
I can draw the base, it's hollow, the thickness command is a bit unpredictable, so I cloned the body, scaled it and subracted it.Now I'm experimentating with the 'Sketch on Surface' in the curved workbench, but I don't really know whats going on. You have a very little rectangle to draw in.

Re: Would this be possible to design with Freecad (tongue drum)
I did not make your exact design but I think this is the method you want to use

I just ran into a video tutorial on sketching on a surface which should help explaining that rectangle you see.Now I'm experimentating with the 'Sketch on Surface' in the curved workbench, but I don't really know whats going on. You have a very little rectangle to draw in.

... using SketchOnSurface in CurvesWB and Array in Sketcher to produce this pattern.
You can scale the Mapped_Sketch rectangle !!

you should change the title in relation to the project so that others have an easier time doing future research
