Can someone help me generate a standard mic thread (5/8" x 27)

Post by hendr1x »

I got everything setup using the fastener workbench. Settings are all in attached image. I choose a 5/8" diameter but I don't understand how to generate the thread. Any help would be appreciated.

Your file is heavy with meshes.

@Shalmeneser Oh I completely forgot to get rid of the meshes. Sorry about that.

Thank you for the changes, I really appreciate it. I am going to 3d print it right now.

Looks like you just used a hole (instead of the fastener workbench). Do you have time to briefly explain how you calculate the required numbers? (which I am attaching here just in case someone needs the info).

Double-click on the Hole feature to open the specific window for the tool.

@Shalmeneser Did you do some calculation to determine the thread size? Looking at it more closely it looks like is actual just some rough thread and not actually the standard mic thread required.

Attached is a photo of the thread I am trying to use (27 whatever that means...I assume 27 threads per inch).

When I try to change the hole to UTC fine thread...the thread just disappears completely.

He used the Hole tool, which provides standard threaded holes.

Unfortunately it does not offer 5/8 x 27 since it is, indeed, not a thread defined by a standards organization...

I think the only 5/8 offered is 18.

You are probably going to need a Fasteners workbench tap, with a custom thread pitch or you will need to use Part Design Subtractive Helix.

The great thing about standards is that there are so many of them.

Believe it or not, 5/8" x 27 TPI is a standard microphone thread. Seems to still be used in Europe too.

It's not going to help you with the Freecad hole tool, however.
