Grouping elements in freecad to later filter in paraview

Post by Sahil »

Hi All,

Absolutely amazed at how well the CFD workbench runs and the smooth workflow.

I am able to run simulations following some tutorials and now I am trying to get drag and lift data for a model I am working on.

I have followed the various tutorials many times and know the process backwards thanks to some wonderful tutorials by members of this forum.

Where I get stuck or find myself ignorant is when trying to get the mesh of the object I am trying to analyse. When I filter and choose extract block I can't see the surfaces I meshed in freecad/cfmesh (in this example I created a rectangular shape and my object which is a sphere and did Boolean cut to get the shape of the sphere in the rectangular shape) I see internal mesh which seems to be everything. How can I set my object and mesh up to be able to get the surface of the sphere only?

I found out what I was doing wrong.

In most of the tutorials that teach how to calculate drag and lift, they show the process of extract block > generate surface normals > calculate etc. However what I missed out was that I had to go to the very top of the tree on the left and load all data/mesh/geometry from below the menu deconstatuted and click apply and then when I go back to extract block I can see the geometry I want to isolate and perform the post processes on.
