Align 3D scanned mesh

Post by 3cells »

I am trying to make a camera mount to go on the nose of a super-kart. I have 3D scanned the nose and created an .STL file of the part of the nose I am interested in. I have opened this in FreeCAD 0.19 and used the reverse engineering workbench B-Spline to approximate the surface. By cloning the spline I get a body. The intention is to use the spline as a surface to draw up to so that I get the correct curve(s) on the part of the mount that attaches to the nose. What I am struggling with is aligning the scan with the system coordinate system so that I can draw the camera mount. At the moment it is at a random orientation and position. This means that when I start a sketch it is in space away from the nose section. Any pointer(s) as to how to align the scan on the coordinate system would be appreciated.

Many thanks - first attempt and that has put me on to the origin. Now I need to understand how this works.
