Help create tech draw from part at skew angles

Post by freakat »

Hi Forum,

I'm new to freecad. I'm trying to create a speaker box with a trapezoidal base. So far, I have the box made out of pads in part design.
I've attached a screen shot of the vomplete box so one can understand what I'm trying to do.

I placed the sketch for the side walls in the xy-plane, as I have for the base.

I made it so it will line up with the base and used padding to get the inside hight of the box.
Since the part has its largest face now at an angle, the standard orientation will show a projected view only.
Attached is a drawing as pdf, so one can see what I mean.

Is it possible to set the view for specific angles? Since the tech draw will use the view one has in 3d. Alternativley, is it possible to rotate the views in the tech draw by specific angles?

Use Projection Group. It will allow a lot of flexibility to set angles.

Thanks. That is the way I've created the pdf attached in the previous post.
I can flip the view using the arrows but I did not figure out how to set the 15° from the example.

Earlyer I was trying this but did not notice any changes. Now at my first try I nothing changed again.
But then it did after I tried in the other view.

It is unclear to me when the values are updated to the view. A similar thing for the 3d-View, where I was clicking around with the scale and the focus values but did not see a clear pattern on how to do it.

I'm in Version 0.20.2 in Windows 10.

there is an Addon "Align face" which aligns the face to be seen according to the front view

Use Techdraw_RedrawPage or Std_Refresh

Those properties are placed there for a reason, not just to be clutter.

Play with the entries and other settings. You may break something, but it will not affect your health or wealth.

Good advice in many cases is to use Recompute frequently. Some things automatically update instantly and some do not. Recompute ensures that you are looking at the latest version of the model.

The approach with face align works but then the other parts are skew and have the issues. I found the transform function, which does the trick in this case as well.

In both cases either I have a odd part in my box or some remaining parts are now skew on the drawing. Therefore I went the not so elegant way and created a dummy part to use as reference for the drawing.
