New user: Question on unfold 3d to sheetmetal
Good day.
I have never needed freecad until now....tried it several times but now its the time
I downloaded the newest version but would not install so back to 0.19.
I need this for the parametrics and sheetmetal. (cfd hopefully and motion also)
I draw all my 3d stuff in Moi3d.
Now my question is ...if I have a 3d shape (pic attached) and I would like to unfold and then make it into a sheetmetal part.
What is the best way to accomplish this in Freecad?
Thank you in advance!

Hmm...why wouldn't it install? What was the issue?

Re: New user: Question on unfold 3d to sheetmetal
it is possible to make this object with sheetmetal, but on 2 conditions: the angles must have compatible radii, the box must have a correctly chosen open face

I don't know if you've checked the wiki or not, but the commands Make Relief, Make Junction, and Make Bend seem to be what you're looking for.
https://wiki.freecad.org/SheetMetal_Workbench
It may not work on a part quite like that, but it might be worth a shot.
Hopefully this helps!

@ drmarco when installing it just seems to hang about mid way...I tried 2 times and then removed form my pc.
@papyblaise and danvie...
I am trying to understand before I deep dive into Freecad what would the best thing to do or what is possible.
I have attached the same model where indicated in orange should bend, red cut, marked black dont exist and lets say it is hollow.
Question 1: If it was not hollow ...could I import from Moi3d as a 3d model to unfold in Freecad and then make it into a sheetmetal part?
Question 2: if imported as a hollow item ...so constructed from several planes....can this be unfolded in Freecad and then be converted into a sheetmetal part?
Question 3: Or try to unfold it in Moi3d , import into Freecad and then convert to a sheetmetal part?
I hope these questions makes sense...
Thanks to all!

Many here use mesh as well. Me, and just my opinion I prefer triangulation. An indepth discussion is viewtopic.php?p=611276#p611276

Tools from @danvie post have problems to work due to non-perpendicular faces (?).

I just have one thing to say - good luck bending that thing with anything but a hammer and chisel
