FreeCAD on the web

Post by yorik »

Would be interesting to have a topic where we can put links where FreeCAD appears, no? I found this one today:

Mhhh,
I'm still a little bit defensive with to much publicity until we have more features for the end-user.
I fear we get overrun by user masses and can not handle that much support requests and wishes....

But may be I'm wrong !? :?

Yes, I think that too, but it's your fault, you shouldn't have done such a good software :)

Anyway I think it is unavoidable... Sooner or later there would be a lot of newbies coming in, and probably asking a lot of basic questions. I hope that together with that will also appear power users, like it happened with blender. And, comparing with blender again, the power users community is really cool, they do a lot of things, they write the doc, they write scripts, they reply to newbies, they have interesting talks with the developers, etc. We'll see! Maybe it will be cool too...

I don't know if any of you is subscribed to the pythonOCC list, but today a guy posted there who made this project: http://code.google.com/p/occray/ basically he uses the yafaray renderer (one of blender's good external renderers) to render occ geometry... It's all python, looks simple. Might be cool for FreeCAD too, I'll do some tests when I have time...

I have implemented a bridge to Povray in the Raytracing module. But not looked at it a long time.
Whats needed I think is more user interaction, for e.g. camera position and so on.

I have contact with Jelle from pythonOCC and he is very interested in some kind of
cooperation. But the problem is still the license - GPL V3.....
I give em a plug to our discussion on polygnu. Will see....

That last link is excellent! Rarely you see someone really digging that far into freecad
Another one here, but not very deep: http://www.junauza.com/2009/12/free-and ... M+BOHOL%29

That piston example is great.

But I can't put the cylinder in horizontal way and can't revovle the rectangle face with my build 3225 under win-xp.

Must installed a linux version to try it.
