Then what has that to do with MS vanishing ?

Remember that GitHub is Microsoft, and Microsoft is no stranger to under-the-belt tactics.
probably should have quoted this part of your post instead ...

But there is not only GH around, there is other git hosting sites and a git server could be hosted probably on every server in the worl.

The point is that sources are available, so it will be probably a matter of hours to have a working source tree, maybe even with commit history.

And as the even MS is using Linux, and is making money on Open Source Software, it is not very realistic to foresee such scenario.

Main point is IMHO to find a viable way to fund OpenSource development, maybe even with sponsorship from some emergent GH competitor that want to break MS monopoly, but as said probably it is not a case that US based businesses have or want to have monopoly on Internet and related things.

Let's see what EU will do to break this monopoly, I will be very happy if an European Microprocessor will be developed maybe based on some RISC achitecture that will change on some extent "cards on table".

As chip production machines are mainly made in Holland and Germany, (from what I knowl it will not be too difficult to think that something will appear in next year's as COVID19 has changed the globalisation paradigm, and recent war fact has clearly shown that "cold war" is not ended, it has only changed name.

But maybe this is an utopia, let's see.

Regards

Carlo D.

FreeCAD being used with real life good results in the model engine machinist community. The model is a centrifugal blower.
See the last post for a link to the FreeCAD files.
