Just wondering, @paddle could you give the code to Zheng Lei's branch of FreeCad (https://github.com/realthunder/FreeCAD) to integrate?
Or open-source and others can refactor it?
This tool would be so useful to have!

I also suggested that in this discussion, see previous posts.

It already is open-source. Check the branches of GitHub repositories belonging to paddle and abdullah:

https://github.com/abdullahtahiriyo/FreeCAD_sf_master

Definitely, especially since this and other tools seem to be working already and, according to FreeCAD devs, just need some code cleaning before merging. Also, it’s unlikely that someone else will implement those features in the near future so we can only hope that paddle will do this. Currently, he’s working on snapping in the sketcher - a project funded by Open Toolchain Foundation. So there’s still a chance that he will go back to his previous ideas. Assuming that he finds common ground with mergers.

It can be found on my github: https://github.com/PaddleStroke/FreeCAD
The branch is paddle_widget and/or paddle_widget_testing. Zheng Lei is welcome to pick and merge to his branch what he wants of course.

Problem is if he merges this now to his version, and then this gets merged in the main FC in a somewhat modified way, then there will be two different implementations (depends of course how big the changes would be)...

In a turn of events, it is actually not impossible that I'll get a full time job working on FC through Ondsel (nothing acted yet). If so I'll be back and if I'm paid I'll jump through any loop I'm asked to, it's not the same logic as when you're doing voluntary work I guess. A lot of frustration I got was because it was my free time and sometime I felt it was wasted.

That would be great. I hope they will appreciate your effort and make this good decision to start a full-time collaboration with you. Otherwise, I would suggest creating your own crowdfunding initiative. Considering how well jnxd's fundraising for the B-spline project went, your even more useful features should attract a lot of attention. I will always support your ideas and projects in any way I can.

Has there been any progress with getting this merged into official?

Offset is one of a handful of features that I use constantly for what I am doing and I am really looking forward to having it in freecad.

Offsets are not planned for 0.21 at least. Additionally, there is a complication that offsets don't always behave like existing curves, so even when they are supported I expect it would take time to support any constraints using the offset curves (if at all).
My latest (or last) project: B-spline Construction Project.
