FreeCAD 0.19.4 released

Post by uwestoehr »

The FreeCAD team is happy to announce the release of FreeCAD 0.19.4!

This is a maintenance release of the FreeCAD 0.19 series. Therefore it does not bring new features but fixes many bugs.
The full list of fixes can be found here:
https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/rele ... #changelog

Installers for Windows can be found in the assets of the release page at GitHub (at the very last of the page):
https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/releases/tag/0.19.4

Due to lack of time and since all manpower is used to release FreeCAD 0.20, there won't be builds for MacOS and Linux.

For how to install, see the installation instructions:
https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/rele ... structions

If you use FreeCAD on a Chromebook, please have a look at the known issues sections of the release notes:

So does that mean the downloads webpage https://www.freecad.org/downloads.php will not be changed from 0.19.3 until 0.20 is released?

I will only update the links for Windows. I already found a bug in the build (only regarding FEM) so I need another day until I can do this.

Are you sure the version 2 of the 0.19.4 installer should be nearly 400Mb larger than version 1?

Note that on linux other packagers are already providing 0.19.4 (archlinux, flatpak, snap, potentially other distros). From a quick look the ppa stayed on 0.19.2 it seems.
No luck on MacOS though. We should soon see 0.20 anyways.

That is correct. Yesterday I found out (I was searching for this for about a year) that I need to include about 260 MB of DLL files in order to provide a fully functional CalculiX: most of the cases where people reported in the forum this bug

Code: Select all

PySide2.QtCore.QProcess.ProcessError.Crashed
are now fixed.

Unfortunately the 260 MB make the installer package greater than 2 GB and then the packager fails to use the LZMA algorithm to create the installer ZIP. Therefore I had to use another ZIP algorithm and in effect the installer is not 260 MB larger, but 400. However, this is the last installer for FC 0.19 and for FC 0.20 we can get smaller in size since the huge help pack will not have to be included.

No info is provided on https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/releases/tag/0.19.4 page about missing Linux(AppImage)/macOS builds or the size boost in the windows libpack etc...
People are confused.'

Edit: we're highly leveraged on conda but only have 1 packager available to tackle all 3 OSs and make sure downstream 3rd party deps compile correctly. It's not sustainable.
