Sketcher Rectangular Array - parametric use

Post by JurgenG »

Hi,

in the sketcher there is a feature "Create Array" (https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Sketcher_RectangularArray)
Does anyone know if it is possible to use this in a parametric way? (creating a cable holder, want to dynamically create the right number of holes in the sketch)

No, it's just a macro to help you in your sketch.
You should use Transformation tools (eg PartDesign_LinearPattern)

It is not possible. For that you should use some patterning feature.

Thanks for the clear answer. I thought so, and hoped to be wrong :?

This is a small cable holder. I designed all (most) parameters in the sketch now.
I could redo it, but my lazy butt was hoping not to have to redo some work ;)

This gimmick is to bind my USB cables, but if I make it thicker, it also does other cables.
Now, the teeth help keep the wire organised. I will have to revert to making these dents as separate objects.

Not separate objects, only separate features. And then you model only half of it and make a multitransform with linear pattern + mirror.

you draw a 1/2, Pad
you draw a tooth, Pad and Linear Patern 3 times
you Miror in the Part workbench (PartDesign does not work), (light green)

Mirror Pad first. Then it will let you add a mirror to the multitransform.
