Simple model based on pictures

Post by veryangryman »

Hi guys,
I'm pretty new to FreeCAD and soon realized that I'm currently unable to create what I want. My skills are simply not sufficient as of now...

Looking for someone to create a model of motorbike seat cover, based on pictures. I'm able to provide pictures from several angles (top, down, side) and dimensions. Shouldn't be a big deal for someone skilled. Unfortunatelly not my case :?

Basically the shape is like this..

If interrested, please PM me your delivery time & cost estimate.

Thank you!

I'm not sure if it's as easy as you might think. Can you tell us what you need it for and what should be provided (for example to reproduce it, therefore you're looking for the FreeCAD model and technical drawings or ...)

Not so easy, as picture are not useful to describe some important data, as example curvature angles and similar things.

Having done similar jobs, I could see some difficulties, most important is to know the scope of the reproduction.

It is true that the only functional dimensions that usually you have to respect are:

- position of the fixtures (hole for screw and similar)
- overall internal height (to avoid contacts between parts) and eventually thickness

But it depends also on what is the scope of the model.

As example if you want to pass the model to a manufacturer, maybe you have to supply a proper format or drawing, so the job could be totally different and will involve:

- modelling the "solid"
- making the Technical drawing

Another example could be if the piece have to be "mated" with existing things, that reproduce the original shape, it is very difficult to reproduce the shape from photo, at least for a discrete precision, (even laser scanning has some precision limits, photogrammetry is way much more and usually in the range of millimeters, if you know precisely the data of the camera lens and have a good measurements of camera position in respect to the object.)

Another example is making a model for a "scale model" it is a totally different thing, as you have also to take in account that scale factor could not be applied exactly to some parts due to material strength requirements.

Hello,

thank you for your replies! Basically - it is for my personal usage as I lost this part from my old motorcycle. Hence to goal is to get 3d model in STL, slice it with prusaslicer and print it at home. Then based on tries and mistakes I will potentially make necessary adjustments.

The thickness shloud be around 3-5 mms. I hope I will be able to adjust the model in freecad if necessary.

I downloaded several pictures - top, bottom, side. Generally all of them are from the internet. Dimensions I measured by approximation on the bike.

As it is for my personal usage, if it isn't 100% as original I can deal with that. Just trying to get something as close to original as possible.

Thank you all!

P.S. - here is a link with pictures package - http://vams.cz/download/seat_cowl.zip

Could you provide 3 pictures of your part without angle? top, side and face?
