Hi everyone,
I'm coming from a Blender background and have recently started a series of beginner tutorials for FreeCAD. I use a variety of tools(Blender, Inkscape, GIMP etc.) but I had been missing a program that could sensibly produce things like floor plans, schematics and technical drawings etc.
I've recently been asked if I could produce a simple floor plan that designates fire zones, and I wondered if the more experienced users would have a more optimal workflow in mind.
Bearing in mind that I'm still learning the program but have started a sketch as the basis for an Arch object. I don't want to get so far to realise there's an optimal series of workbenches for this type of work.
Thanks in advance.

Re: New user seeking recommendation
I don't use FreeCAD for those purposes, so I will refrain from giving advice when there are others who are more experienced in that use. I will advise to change the subject title to better reflect what you are asking about so people with that experience will see the title and know what the question is. Something like "New user seeking recommendations on floor plans" would be better.

Thanks. I did find this post from a few years ago.TheMarkster wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 4:05 pm I don't use FreeCAD for those purposes, so I will refrain from giving advice when there are others who are more experienced in that use. Whilst I am sure, someone will come to prove me wrong
as far as I am concerned FreeCAD is not the best tool for what you are trying to do.
I use 2D non-parametric CAD for that purpose (in addition to using FreCAD for 3D parametric design).

Hi jamieg87, hello to the Community!
While it's a bit old and a bit outdated (but the setting is still valid), I think this might help you: viewtopic.php?p=468410#p468410

Using Arch may work better, as the way I'm using the sketcher is producing a hollow interior. Although I do like the fact that in the sketcher I can use construction lines with constraints. I've had to take measurements myself and scale from there.
Blender has geometry nodes, which I suppose you could call a form of parametric modeling but it seems like overkill to use it just for a top profile orthographic view. Plus ensuring distances between edges/lines and faces is cumbersome.

I'm appreciating learning FreeCAD. It has slightly different objectives than say Blender but it absolutely complements my understanding of 3D modelling in general.
I might have used LibreCAD for this project but I've been having display window issues(bottom missing, no resizing).
I'll try to keep you posted.
