Removing threads from an imported part

Post by keshmaster81 »

I have imported these 2 parts from McMaster Carr as STEP files, and I want to mate them in A2plus, but the threads on both parts make it difficult. What is the best way to remove the threads?

The result of a STEP file import is a solid.

Create a cylinder of the correct size to act as a cutter in Part workbench, transform to appropriate position and use the Boolean Cut to remove the threads.

The Defeaturing_Workbench could be useful. I have used it a few times but not for threads yet. If you would've provide an example file, I've tried it myself ;)

Thanks. Here is the direct links to McMaster-Carr. I was unable to share the files as they are too large. https://www.mcmaster.com/4882K57/

just for fun and play with the defeaturing approach, here two possible ways to remove the thread:

1) defeature the thread selecting its faces and use Part Defeature function

2) add a cylinder and fuse it with the object

Thanks for the Help. I was able to defeature the threads using the Part workbench tool. Now my issue is that I want to create a new feature on the part, so I have created a sketch and mapped it to the Defeatured body. But when I try and use the pocket tool it keeps prompting me to create a new body. Why am I unable to edit the Defeatured body?
