We are going to make a 0.21 release

Post by chennes »

Heads up developers -- we are going to make a 0.21 release. There is some toponaming code coming down the pipe that is going to slow FreeCAD down temporarily, so we want to get a good stable release with all the latest bells and whistles into people's hands just before that gets merged. Read the full announcement here: https://blog.freecad.org/2023/04/28/com ... ecad-0-21/

So, if you're working on something big, now would be a good time to get that dialed in and a PR submitted, because we'll be in feature freeze before you know it!

Do you mean... for good? What is a "feature freeze", exactly?

How hard will it be to change things in FreeCAD a near future? How hard is it now? :-)

A "feature freeze" is a short period of time (typically 2-4 weeks) when no new features will be considered for merging. You can continue to submit PRs, but unless they are strictly bug fixes they will not be considered until the freeze is over (after the release of 0.21).

We probably need to start looking for a new splash screen...

Why not a release 1.0 or 1.21?

The 0. in open source software says: "I'm not sure"

There were long discussions about this. It will be 1.0 if the new toponaming stuff is integrated.

Ah, ok. Thank you. I did not read (found) it.

But yes, I think this is a good reason.
