I ended up postponing the above design due to the design complexity, but here's another one I've made prototypes of in the meantime:

It's hollow, turned from 7068 aluminum, around 48 grams, and comes back with a quick tug. The bearing used is part MR85 (5x8x2.5mm) and it has a 12mm long m3 axle.

I have been designing many yoyos in the meantime. Here's a unique one that combines some elements of spin tops.

Rendered in Blender, imported the model using Sverchok nodes:
