TD - representation of butt and fillet weld seams

Post by maker »

Hi all,

when trying to draw welds, I found that drawing welds does not work as easily as it could go.
In welding technology, a general distinction is made between butt welds and fillet welds. Welds can of course be modeled in 3D in a very complex way. I have the idea, that it would be just as purposeful, if weld seams could be represented simply in TechDraw.
I have tried to clarify the question with a simple example.
In the case of the butt weld, it was possible to create a surface that could be hatched with a solid by inserting a cosmetic line.

Unfortunately, this is apparently not possible with a fillet weld, even if two cosmetic points and two cosmetic lines are drawn, no closed area is created that can be hatched.

Would it be possible to implement such a simple function ?
I could not find an automatic function for this in FC either.

@domad

Thank you very much for the examples you created in relation to the butt weld.
As I have seen, you have created the weld seam representations by overlaying Draft elements with PartDesign elements.
I think it is great what you have created here again.
I think also that the effort is very big here to solve the initial question.

How would you create a solution for the fillet weld representation?

Don't you think there should be a much simpler solution in TechDraw with a few key clicks to get this?

... I think it's not a simple (?) thing to create, in TechDraw, a function that creates a "cosmetic" face from closed polylines (arcs and cosmetic lines), therefore, you can opt by creating some support objects in Draft, collected in "Groups" that refer to the page/view in TD, which allow us to reach the goal with relative simplicity.
The animated gif shows how to do it, it may seem like a complex method, but once you get used to the flow it will become simple and quick to implement.
The image shows some examples of representation, in particular the schematic one in accordance with the standard which uses the symbolism and dimensions to indicate the peculiarities of a fillet weld at intervals.
Unfortunately I was not able, through the parameters, to align the text/symbol with the indication line, perhaps @wandererfan could investigate (?) (in the image I aligned it using Gimp)
