Cavitation

Post by CFD-ROC »

Hello, does anybody have experience with CFD Simulation of cavitation in OpenFoam? I would like to simulate a valve operated with water. OpenFoam seems to have the capability to simulate cavitation:https://www.openfoam.com/documentation/ ... lvers.html

The cavitation functionality however is not accessible via Cfdof or at least I do not know how to do it.

Thanks!

Hello CFD-ROC,

with CfdOf, you can use nearly each solver of OpenFoam. In case your requested solver is not accessible via CfdOf, you must edit the files generated by CfdOf for OpenFoam. I assume that the OpenFoam-solver "cavitatingFoam" is not accessible via CfdOf, so you must edit the files for OpenFoam.

Additional files requested by OpenFoam for "cavitatingFoam" can be found in the tutorials directory. If you run FreeCad under Windows, a version of ESI-OpenCFD or blueCFD was installed. In these versions, you will find a directory "tutorial". In my installation of ESI-OpenCFD, it can be found in "ESI-OpenCFD\OpenFOAM\v2012\msys64\home\ofuser\OpenFOAM\OpenFOAM-v2012\tutorials". Here you will find an OpenFoam tutorial about "cavitatingFoam". You should copy some of these files out of this tutorial into the OpenFoam directory of CfdOf - for example "0.orig\alpha.vapour", "0.orig\k" , ... and "system\fvSchemes", "fvSolution".

Here are 2 examples that show you how to access a solver not supported by CfdOf:
