FreeCAD 0.20
Printing this (from Thingiverse)
results in hanging strands for the tail, chin, and belly. I can add some supports (via PrusaSlicer), but that is cumbersome. Is there a standard procedure that makes it easy to print without dangling strands?

1) 0.20 are not your full info
2) This is a 3D printing problem and not a FC problem. The slicer is the best tool for this.

Maybe try printing this model laid on its side.

Re: Handle hanging portions of object
it is mandatory to support the sloping parts: the tail, the belly, the muzzle
Re: Handle hanging portions of object
My apologies. I know this is not related directly to FreeCAD. I was hoping there was a good solution to the problem as I'm new to 3D printing.
I know that supports can be added. But that adds complications.
There are many stl files on Thingiverse that have portions of an object suspended in mid-air. Because this is common for many images, I thought that there may be a good way to handle this. Thanks for the responses.
BTW These are the types of images that grand-kids select.

Re: Handle hanging portions of object
you could try splitting in half longitudinally, print sideways and then glue together, the legs would likely still require support though.

This is not a forum for 3D Printing problem solutions as alreadyd said in previous posts.
There are very good facebook groups for 3D Printing in which you get help.
You could print your Dachshund like below. It prints in 1 hour 15 minutes with a layer height of 0.25mm at a speed of 25mm/s
Play in the slicer with the angle of support.
