Some time ago I bought a crimping tool for Dupont connectors. Connecting the plugs to the cable turned out to be much harder than I thought! Since I do not have three hands to hold the cable, plug and pliers, I have drawn a pliers shoe in Freecad and 3D printed.
Procedure:
Body 1
Pliers and insert scanned.
Images scaled via Image WB.
Insert redrawn.
Body 2
Binder created from insert
Insert constructed
Mesh created
3D print created
Pictures 3 D print will follow soon
Gruß Dirk

Re: Tool for Crimping Pliers Dupont
Aah, now I see what it is good for; more predictable where it will finally be crimped. Nice idea.

Maybe you need a special feature, go into Macros_recipes and Code_snippets, Topological_data_scripting.

Re: Tool for Crimping Pliers Dupont
Isn't the last part of the metal crimp connector supposed to crimp on the insulation?
Re: Tool for Crimping Pliers Dupont
Hallo Freedmann
Yes, of course you are right! Also the strands of the cable must not protrude as far as on the photo.it was just a bit difficult to hold the camera and the cable at the same time.
This is how it would be right

Re: Tool for Crimping Pliers Dupont
I have used that kind of tool many times and you are so right about needing three hands. The mfg. tried to improve the tools with a spring clip to hold the contact but that just gets in the way so you can't see what your doing. That's a good idea. I wonder if a jog in the track would make a difference in how well the wire is held with different insulation thickness for instance.
Re: Tool for Crimping Pliers Dupont
The video shows the trick, how it should be done without Dirk's helper, but it needs crimping pliers with a decent ratching mechanism, so that the clip can be slightly grabbed before inserting the wire.
