Hi all,
*
Still a beginner and learning.
I've made an electronic component but do have a problem when exporting it to WRL (or STEP) format.
It is probably due to the fact that i have made different parts and shifted them to put them at the right place ...
How can i correct this without redoing all my work ?
I atatched my Freecad file.
Thanks

Re: Export problem
Hi @tk5ep
You could have a try with kicad StepUp which is a FC WB installable with the Tool addons menu.
I included your Parts in a main Part container, then I selected the main container and clicked on the 'makeUnion' button of StepUp
I attached the file of your model and the STEP and WRL model exported You can have a look at this thread at FC forum
https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=14276
Are you doing your models for KiCad?
Please have a look at KiCad 3D model library
https://github.com/KiCad/kicad-packages3D/
If you want to contribute also there, your help would be very appreciated!
PS could you add the word 'STEP' to the thread title? That would help other users in searching

Re: Export problem STEP or WRL
Hi Maurice,
thanks for the answer.
I installed Stepup and have now to deal with it !
I'm not sure to understand about the main container part you're talking about.
I will look on that and try to understand what you're talking about.
Sorry, i'm a beginner...
Yes, i'm doing all this for Kicad.
OK about Github... It looks complicated... too many things to learn at the same time ! But i'll look on that too.
Thanks a million,

Re: Export problem STEP or WRL
If you open the 'KF301-2POLES-to-export.FCStd' you will notice that I added a Part container and moved all the other Part containers inside it.
Then I exported to STEP and WRL selecting the top level Part container
You can stay in FC0.17 ... for STEP modeling is much better
I've seen you there:
https://forum.kicad.info/t/anyone-succe ... es/8056/10
Renè is very helpful and if you want to contribute to KiCad, I'm sure you will be able to go through Git procedure...
I noticed that also your FC models are very well structured
Hoping to see you joining our MCAD squad @ KiCad
PS have a look at kicad StepUp cheat sheet

Re: Export problem STEP or WRL

Re: Export problem STEP or WRL
Hi Maurice and fran6t,
Now, i got it !
In my first tests, i've been using part containers but when i started facing problems, i removed them to test ! Not a good idea.
I also loaded assembly2 and will have a look on it too.
Thanks for your precious help,
Patrick
