Announcing: FreeCAD News

Post by chennes »

https://blog.freecad.org

As part of our effort to provide information about the state of FreeCAD development, the core development team is happy to announce the launch of our news and announcements platform, FreeCAD News. There you’ll find release announcements, in-depth articles about new and upcoming features, information about available Addons, and more. And right now, basically exactly this text! As we begin, you can expect new articles on a roughly weekly basis.

Our long-term hope is that this provides the community with more insight into the development process, with better information about upcoming features, release dates, freezes, and of course, the upcoming Toponaming merge sequence :) . Right now I'm doing most of the writing, but if anyone else is interested either in directly contributing an article, or in just sending along ideas for articles, please feel free to reach out to me at blog@freecad.org (please include "FreeCAD News" in your subject line). Of course, for article ideas you can also just post them here, or send me a PM.

Thanks!

Awesome! Some stuff that could be worth mentioning:
https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/pull/7377
https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=71130
(these when/if they get merged)
https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/pull/7417
https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/pull/7193
https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/pull/7118
https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/pull/6506

Could also be a good idea to setup a telegram channel to notify about new articles like the KDE blogs do for example.

Thanks for the effort! Are you currently working alone on the blog?

No, not alone! Yorik and I have been working the technical end of things, with Uwe riding herd on us to hurry up and get it done, and various other devs giving feedback. It’s always a team effort :D .

A first "real" article, highlighting some of the amazing work done for Sketcher in 0.20:

Probably nothing new for most people here on the forums, but I think this affects a lot of users who may not know to look for the new ways of doing things.

Help on translations is always appreciated, and it's something non-developers can work on, so I wrote a brief piece about how that works...
