[SOLVED] Slackware 15 and FreeCAD 20.1 AppImage

I'm new to Slackware so this may just be my ignorance but I noticed when upgrading Slackware 15 (installed from live USB) with security fixes that FreeCAD AppImage no longer launched.
Long story short; I am now able to launch the latest FreeCAD AppImages if I run it via sudo.

Recording my experience here in case anyone is on a similar path.

The situation is obviously not ideal from a security standpoint. Any advice appreciated.

have you tried running with the --write-log parameter and looked at the resulting log file? Have you checked that you have correct permissions in your ~/.config/FreeCAD and ~/.local/share/FreeCAD directories? Does it work if you run with another user?

~/.local/share/FreeCAD/FreeCAD.log reads — in pertinent part — as follows:

I don't know where the iso build is looking.

Running the desktop in an X11 environment or even wayland, in place of full wayland allowed the AppImages to launch without issue.

This issue is solved and will be marked accordingly.
