Sketcher: hide Snell's law by default.

Post by paddle »

So as we're talking about removing icons from toolbar.
What about hiding Snell's law constraint by default?
We can have a preference setting "hide Snell's law constraint from toolbar".

I say that because it feels like this tool is mostly never used. And if you need it, you would probably read about the tool in the wiki and know it has to be activated to show up in the toolbar.

Your thoughts?

Yeah, this constraint is extremely niche and shouldn’t be included in the default toolbar. It could be turned into a macro or hidden. There are many other much more important sketcher tools that could potentially take its place.

I would also like to remove it from the toolbar, having it in the sketcher menu is enough. No need for an additional settings check box imo.

I worked with advanced optics throughout my career, and I have a good understanding of Snell's law and its uses.

That said, I have never used that operation in the Sketcher, and I don't expect to ever use it.

Placing in the drop-down top-level menu (only) sounds like a great idea.

@DeepSOIC do you want to weigh in on this before I push the change? It seems that there is solid consensus here.

I have moved the discussion about moving more icons from the toolbar to the menu to its own discussion: https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=71899.

sorry for late reply, i have no objections. The sketcher toolbar doesn't fit on my screen and definitely needs a bit of cleanup.
