that can be the case, but if someone buys something and then encounters problems, it would have been better if they had had some guidance when they bought it and the problem didn't arise in the first place.

Agree - I wish I knew which graphic card to buy for my Linux PC that would be both cheap and good for FreeCAD.
I am talking as someone who experienced problems with nvidia and Linux
I am using Link branch and Assembly3
you can also download ... and try it here
excellent Assembly3 tutorials here

thanks for the cooperation. Does it make sense to create a thread that is pinned, where users report on well-functioning hardware-software combinations, so that there is orientation?

thomas

I think that a similar thread would be a good thing, but it will be a "moving target" as on every change on libraries it will be obsolete and could lead to more confusion.

As usual, there are pro and cons.

Maybe this sort of thing could be managed better in a wiki page that will summarize, "most common" solution to know problems, but as bambuko said, it will need some efforts by some skilled developers and this is a "very scarce resource".

I think that as FreeCAD is using not direct OpenGl calls, but they are mediated by Qt and Coin3D (hoping to have guessed right), maybe some clear address to upstream sites, will be more easy and understandable by users, (As FreeCAD is using 3rd part library to do such things).
