[Solved]Freecad 0.19 is not starting Win10

Hi everybody,

I always find all that i need in the forum or wiki but now, i'm navigating in the cosmos...

I tried to install Freecad for my young son to a PC and to use 3D printer with win10 always upgraded.
- try with .msi
- try with choco
many times ...

I never see that : When i run the program, the first little windows with loading modules appears, but the GUI windows comes maybe 0,5 second and freecad stop without any massage.

Because this fix PC is legacy, i check material and, like the wiki say, lunched an openGL apllication like blender without any problem. The graphic card is ATI Radeon HD 5450 with 1Gb RAM

Here below, the freecad log when i start the program : (seen, in some lines i have "no found module")

You can either try the latest 0.20 or create another user without the special non ascii character in it. I would even recommend both, because other programs may show issues as well.

I'd say that step is essential, Werner has put a fix in but I don't believe it's in any of the weekly dev builds yet.

I did not try the 0.20, but i've created a new account with ascii code name. That's the solution for me.
And ... Cura Slicer running properly also !

However, the funny thing is that there it worked with v0.19 and there was a regression in v0.20 that I have fixed in the meantime.

When looking for the explanation why it (unexpectedly) worked in https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... 18#p555118 I think it makes a difference what exactly the user name is.
In the linked thread the user name was Pierre-François and the function GetTempPathW() returns the DOS file name PIERRE~1 that removes the problematic "ç". Now in this case Amélien is used and my guess is that GetTempPathW() returns a file name that boost's file_lock class cannot handle.

I had the same problem, where I start FreeCad 0.19 and after the splash/load pane, there is a white, wide horizontal window, that appears just slight above the the Taskbar. It is the very top of the FreeCad window, which is mostly off screen beyond the bottom.

WORKAROUND:
Click on the Maximize button on the top of window, then you will see FreeCad is working.
Since it is the top of the window but you can't see the control icons, but it is the second button from the right on the banner of the window. It may have a tooltip popup to tell you when you are on it.

I just tried to reproduce the problem, since I had the window maximized when I quit the last session, it opened back maximized.

ENHANCEMENT:
The Taskbar menu for FreeCad could have a Maximize button, so if it somehow off the window, you can always get it back.

It's not necessary, Windows has a built-in fully documented shortcut key(s) for Maximise Window, F11 or Windows logo key + Up arrow

On Windows 7 it's the Windows logo key + Up arrow that works as expected, I'm guessing Windows 10 will be the alternative??
