[solved - with comment] Weekly-build version regression

Post by PMac »

Hi, it appears that the FC weekly build version has regressed from 26238 to 14555. Just tried to routinely update from last weeks build 26238 which previously updated build numbers as is normal. Final file sizing looks OK.

Actions:
Opened: AppImageUpdate-x86_64.AppImage
Selected: FreeCAD_weekly-builds-26238-Linux-Conda_glibc2.12-x86_64.AppImage
Script appears to run as is normal, only to output a lesser build version number as below

Code: Select all

Fetching release information for tag "weekly-builds" from GitHub API.
Updating from GitHub Releases via ZSync
zsync2: /home/user5/Downloads/fcad-appimage/FreeCAD_weekly-builds-14555-Linux-Conda_glibc2.12-x86_64.AppImage found, using as seed file
zsync2: Target file: /home/user5/Downloads/fcad-appimage/FreeCAD_weekly-builds-14555-Linux-Conda_glibc2.12-x86_64.AppImage
zsync2: Reading seed file: /home/user5/Downloads/fcad-appimage/FreeCAD_weekly-builds-14555-Linux-Conda_glibc2.12-x86_64.AppImage
zsync2: Usable data from seed files: 100.000000%
zsync2: Renaming temp file
zsync2: Fetching remaining blocks
zsync2: Verifying downloaded file
zsync2: checksum matches OK
zsync2: used 960602112 local, fetched 0
Can this be confirmed as correct or otherwise? (will continue to use build 26238 till addressed)

I guess there is something wrong with the new approach to set the version. I guess the build-number is wrong, but the build with buildnumber 14555 should be the latest. I will try to fix this for the next build.

Thanks looo, unfortunately update fails.
Have attempted from 26238 to 26306 with following failure results. Update appears to hang at around 886MB and times out a couple of minutes later.

An update.

Have continued with multiple attempts each day to update appimage with eventual timeouts. Now have 898MB of 916MB downloaded. Similar result obtained using an downloaded appimage. 26306 is found, differences calculated, update attempted, times out failing to complete update.

It appears that the zsync operation when it tries to get updates, instead of relatively a quick download as was previously and long exhibited, now presents as being severely throttled in download speed. zsync is very slowly downloading the required difference updates, unfortunately the appimage updater times out and reports as a fail. Am unsure where the update is being throttled, but suspect off-platform as all my other Internet related activity actions with normal speeds.

Question: are others experiencing similar appimage update speed issues?

Update 2:
Have finally completed 0.20R26306 update from 26238. Download of changes remains severely throttled in speed but the update completed incrementally over multiple attempts. Throttling remains unresolved from my end.

However, as the suggested 26306 update has fully downloaded, the initially noted issue of build number regression is almost complete. Will not mark this as solved until 0.20R26306 is tested against the next expected update in a few days time.

Update:
Issue is confirmed NOT resolved.

New appimage release provided as version 26375. Same symptoms, determines difference, commences download at fully throttled less than dial-up speeds, fails to complete by timeout. Got from 93% to 95% (873MB of 916MB) before 5 minute timeout.

Result as detailed below:

Code: Select all

Update:

Have marked as solved as initial issue was promptly resolved by looo. Many thanks.

Secondary issue re slow appimage updates from github was unresolved. If one does a search of the forums for "appimage download slow", the search results show this is probably a github problem. It appears that github actively throttles and dumps slower connections. As I live with an inherently slow rural wifi Internet connection, the appimage update timeouts will not resolve anytime in the near future. I had never experienced timeouts with github before and suspected this was maybe caused part of the fix given by looo. My bad, it was not so.

The comment 3 at this post was enlightening and the subsequent resolution using torrents downloads looks promising.
