Creating or Editing TechDraw Template

Post by casterle »

FreeCAD didn't come with US Letter templates (seems a strange omission).

Using instructions I found online, I created one in Inkscape 1.2.1 and saved it in regular SVG format (attached).

For some reason, when I print it, it's far too large to fit on an 8.5 x 11 page.

I've been dinking with this for over 3 hours and am a bit frustrated. Can someone please help me figure this out, or point me to working US Letter templates (including blanks)?

Thanks!

Hi, and thanks for starting with a contribution. I have moved your topic to the TechDraw forum.

Hi,
did you follow this Guide: https://wiki.freecadweb.org/TechDraw_TemplateHowTo, this is the official Guide for how to create Templates.
I Personally use a Program that I have written my self: https://github.com/tobiasfalk/KiCAD-Fre ... tag/Releas, this creates me A whole lot of fetuses on the Template and has all the US sizes.
Edit 2022-11-11 11:11:
I Looked at the attached File in detale and it seems that the size of the Template is correct, this lets me Believe that you may have set something wrong in the Printing Dialog, I would recommend tiring to set it to something where it scales it to the paper size, "Fitting" or "No Boarders"
Edit 2022-11-11 11:25:
I just looked and found two US Leter Templates in the standard Tech draw Templates:

@tobiasfalk You need to use a different translation utility...

There are 2 US Letter templates included, both landscape though. A modified version of your blank portrait template gives good results here. I changed all the dimensions to mm, since that is what we use internally.

Thank you! I guess my problem was using inches in Inkscape - I'm surprised that FreeCAD doesn't do the conversion, assuming that the units are stored in the SVG file.

Thank you.

I did follow the guide, but I created the template in Inkscape using inches which seems to have been the problem.

When I selected the template, there were no US templates listed. I found the landscape versions online, but couldn't find portrait version, which is why I tried to create my own.
