Suggestions on bending a plate

Post by saline »

Code: Select all

OS: Windows 10 Version 2009
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.21.31058 (Git)
Build type: Release
Branch: master
Hash: e6c53d8642af36ce7d738ab6058b063ec58e0859
Python 3.8.13, Qt 5.15.4, Coin 4.0.0, Vtk 9.1.0, OCC 7.6.3
Locale: English/United States (en_US)
Installed mods:
  * Help 1.0.3
  * sheetmetal 0.2.59
Not sure what is recommended. Should I have bent the plate first using the Sheetmetal workbench then selected the plane to put the holes and slots? Or, can I bend this plate now after I have done all the work? The bend is supposed to be 390mm up from the Y -axis in this orientation.

this is possible with the "Fold along a line" tool

That's what I'm looking for, but could you send me the tree view? In the model below, I need the bend to be 390 from the bottom as in the "Sketch" for the "Pad". I've placed a reference line there for the bend for using with the Sheetmetal workbench, but it tells me the wire is not closed. It seems to be the reference line causing the problem. The bend icon on the sheetmetal workbench is not lit. Is this the "fold along the line" method? Is this the work bench you used?

The bend line must be alone in its Sketch

Why do you provide an empty TechDraw ?
Why for a so complex object do you not fully constrain each sketch ?

Excuse the newbie question, but isn't a multitransform considered by definition constrained? I had an earlier post with the slots and holes all constrained, but the recommendation was that it was too complex and that I should use multitransforms. What is the benefit of a fully constrained part? Might need a new thread for this. Would like to understand this a bit more though.

These complex sketches are so complex for a good reason, so you should need to explain these reasons with all constraints needed.

No, they are unrelated.

That was not the intended message. The complexity is related to the large number of elements and the inelegant use of repeated dimensional constraints.

Nobody was suggesting using under-constrained sketches. What was being suggested is to minimize the arrays and repeated structures in a sketch and create the repeats using multitransform or some other method outside the sketcher.
