Repeat last command?

Post by thomas-neemann »

I was asked if it is possible to repeat the last command in freecad, e.g. via hotkey?

Can you add a bit more about the context and the use cases?

In sketcher there are two ways to use a constraint tool

1 You select the object (nearly vertical line, circle etc) and then choose the tool to apply the constraint. Like "Constrain Vertically"
The constraint will be applied to the line and you are free to select the next object.

2 Without any object selected, you select the constraint tool like "Constrain Vertically" and then click all the lines you want constrained vertically.
Then select the next constraint tool like "Constrain Horizontally" and click all the lines you want constrained horizontally.

This is kinda like repeat last command.

If you make a macro you can use the most recent macro again with a hotkey, default is ctrl+shift+1.

Thanks for the tip, I'll remember that for a similar situation. but here we are probably looking for a solution out of the box

3 great autocad features one uses constantly

- CLI
- Enter to repeat last command
- Hotkeys for snaps

How does one entice new developers to contribute?

IMO, social network effect on Twitter would do it. Time to appoint a reply-guy aka CEO "Chief Engagement Officer" ?

Honestly, not a bad idea, dare I say.

The way to rally interest is to invest time in posting in-depth proposal on the feature. So many features request fall to the wayside because folks who ask for them don't put the energy in to their proposal. Also an important thing to remember here is that we don't like it when people link to other CAD suites (especially proprietary) and say, "Hey, I want this!". This is problematic on so many levels. FreeCAD is its own thing, people need to remember that we aren't copying anyone. We are open to hearing features of course but understand the context.

Proposals have clear asks with context ('say for example this is the case..') and file examples. Great proposals have screenshots and even simulated before/after feature images. This gets peoples juices flowing because they can get a better understanding of what you're asking and it may captivate them as well.
Alone you go faster. Together we go farther
