A big hello to you guys!
We are new to FreeCAD and we’re two Middle School students; our schoolbook includes CAD 2D lessons, and suggests a different CAD program. We had a look at it, but we think FreeCAD is more complete than the one proposed by our textbook.
So now we’re trying to replicate the shapes on it but we’ve encountered some problems.
Once you create a shape (i.e. an hexagon), we can apply labels to its constraints, but that's for internal usage only.
What can we do if we want to label the vertices with capital letters (A, B, C, etc.) and be able to print them along with the shape itself? Is there a way to do it?
We would really appreciate your help!
Thanks,
D&T

Re: Sketcher workbench - how to assign labels to vertices
Hi and welcome to the forum!
for printing you create a technical drawing using the TechDraw workbench. There you can add annotations, balloons, or similar.
What CAD was recommended?

Re: Sketcher workbench - how to assign labels to vertices
Hi!
Thanks for your fast replies!
@ Shalmeneser
We were trying to use the old FreeCAD version that comes with Ubuntu 20.04, but we’ve asked our dad to install a newer version so now we’ve got it both the 0.18.4 and the 0.20.1.
It’s this one:
@chrisb
Our schoolbook suggests DraftSight for the CAD 2D.
We created our shape by using the sketcher workbench → hexagon
but we can’t even make it appear in the techdraw workbench.
Perhaps it’s a selection problem that we have … we can’t even get any icon active: they are all gray, even the “insert new default page”…..

Re: Sketcher workbench - how to assign labels to vertices
You probably still have a task open, close the sketch and icons should become available...
Re: Sketcher workbench - how to assign labels to vertices
I see two possible reasons for this: a) you have not yet created a new file b) you still have an active task, to be seen by a pencil near the text Tasks. Close the task before continuing with TechDraw.CADNewbiesAtSchool wrote: ↑Fri Dec 02, 2022 12:03 pm we can’t even get any icon active: they are all gray, even the “insert new default page”…..

Re: Sketcher workbench - how to assign labels to vertices
Thanks for your help! You were right, we left the task open.
After closing it, we selected the hexagon, launched the TechDraw workbench → insert default page → insert projection group.
Then we were able to name the vertices by pressing the “insert annotation” button.
Bye!!
