Workable Copy/Mirror

Post by Lowlyslows »

Hello,

I am sorry if this has already been covered. I am very new to this and I don't know the terms and what to search for.

I would like to make a mirrored copy of a part but I need to be able to make some changes to the mirrored part without changing the original. How do I go about doing this?

Thanks for any help.

More infos would be welcome. In Part workbench the mirror is a new object which can be modified individually.

Ah, sorry, I was half asleep when I joined and posted. I saw the red but didn't read it!

1) I will be nice

2) I downloaded Freecad 2 weeks ago. My version is 0.20.1

3) I did search but I don't know what words/terms to use, sorry. I did autocad in high school so I only know mirror.

4)

Code: Select all

OS: Windows 10 Version 2009

5) Original Question: I would like to make a mirrored copy of a part but I need to be able to make some changes to the mirrored part without changing the original. How do I go about doing this? More Detail: I am building a case to hold a belt for a side by side. The bottom half has a 1/4" ridge on the top of it. When the top half is set on top of the bottom half, the ridge on the bottom half recess into the top half to help keep water out. I would like to mirror the bottom half to become the top half but I need to be able to make changes to the top half.

I also don't know how to call this mirror/clone/edit operation
you make a clone of the body, then with placement, turn it 180°, then a Pocket (or a Pad)

Isn’t a clone a copy? I would then have to move flanges from the back side back to the front.

clone and copy are almost the same thing (I don't really know the difference) and it depends on the workshop
attach the file and specify what you want

What do you mean by attach the file and specify what I want? I attached an image earlier and indicated what my goals are. Was that not correct?

Thanks

an image is not the file and the description is subject to interpretation, if you do not make a brief sketch

Which workbench did you use? You can attach a FreeCAD file, so we can see such things.
