Surface Loft with tangent constraints

Post by Davide_sd »

I'm trying to create an interlinked star geometry with FreeCAD. I'm using this (Solidworks) tutorial as a "guide": https://learnsolidworks.com/solidworks_ ... solidworks

Currently, I'm stuck at this step:

Image

Here, the top blue surface was cut out of a sphere, so it is curved. The bottom blue surface is planar. With Solidworks, they selected the two edges and applied a surface loft with tangent constraints.

After exploring the Surface/Part/Curves workbenches, I think this step requires a bit more of manual work to be done with FreeCAD. What approaches can I try? I'm attaching my current file if someone would like to give it a try and then explain the process.

Solidworks and FreeCAD have different workflow, and different "3d engines" so probably workflows are not matching.

And probably different "3d engines" mean also different "3d concepts", did you see:

Probably there are problem, but maybe posting directly on:

https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... start=1350

Will result in a more quick response.

Kind Regards.

hi, did you finished the challenge? I've got a self Intersection here.

Would you please upload the model? also, were you able to fix the overlaps and self-intersection that you mentioned? I would be very happy to see FC successfully handle a project such as this.

I'd like to try this but need to know if it is possible to get this result using FC. I believe it should be.
