Suggestions on how to correct a few things

Post by bteddy »

OS: Windows 7 Version 6.1 (Build 7601: SP 1)
Version: 0.19.24267 +148 (Git)
Python version: 3.8.6+
Qt version: 5.15.2
Coin version: 4.0.1
OCC version: 7.5.3

Hello,

I am a noobie. don't know if I have it setup correctly.
every time I do something the icons across the top icons disappear or become grayed out.
If I arrange the icons bars to my liking then save and reopen the arrangement is different.

I have a pad I am trying to add a sketch (rectangle) to. but when I try to select the corners to constrain to center, nothing. but I can select a side but can not constrain.

1) How to keep the icon bars from disappearing?
2) How do I keep the icon bars arrangement from changing?
3) I am following along with a video tutorial but can not complete tasks do to all the errors.I want to create rectangle sketch around the edge of a rectangle pad then pad the sketch up 48.8mm and make the walls 3mm thick.

Where can I find documents to tell me how do do this?

Thank You

Not sure about this, I've not seen that.

To bring in external geometry into your sketch, you need to use https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Sketcher_External It would be better to bring in the geometry from your previous sketch than from the Pad itself.

Which tutorial, some are so out-of-date, they are more frustrating than useful? If you want to practice with Part Design, I'd start with https://wiki.freecadweb.org/Basic_Part_Design_Tutorial

edwilliams16 " It would be better to bring in the geometry from your previous sketch than from the Pad itself."
How is this done? When I create a pad the sketch disappears.

Space-bar on items in the tree view turn their visibility on and off. Turn off the pad, turn on the sketch.

In PartDesign, the pad/pocket hide the used sketch.
You can click on the '>' at the left of the construction tree to 'open' levels.
