is it a zero thickness wall or something else

Post by steve.chaplin »

Hi,
I have been struggling with this for a while now and can't figure out how to resolve it.
I have a .igs file that I have oped in FreeCAD, it looks like this
FreeCAD_igs.png
FreeCAD_igs.png (35.82 KiB) Viewed 768 times
I select it and export as wrl to be used in KiCAD and I get this wierd thing that looks like some of the wall thickness is zero
KiCAD_wrl.png
KiCAD_wrl.png (43.69 KiB) Viewed 768 times
I have tried everything I can think of, including changing the material type but nothing works.

I also got an igs file from a different manufacturer who has an alternative part and I get the same result. However I have done the same thing with other igs files with no problem.

The step file export has no problem. I have tried opening the step file to export as wrl but I get the same result.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just downloaded FreeCAD 0.19.4 and it has not helped.

Thank you

Hi and welcome to the forum!

For better help you should attach your FreeCAD infos and you can also upload the file. It is also worth a try to use the latest development version, currently 0.20.

Sure thing, I have uploaded a selection of igs files that are creating problems for me.

These are 2 manufacturers with 2 different types of connector, the ones I am most interested in are:
Holin_CBN-L112CPR
Holin_CBD-L108CPR

Yep, it all looks ok'ish in FreeCAD, but using it in KiCAD doesn't work.

I had someone open the igs file in Fusion360, turns out that the models were made with un-stitched surfaces, in Fusion360 there is an option to stitch together a selection of surfaces into a body.

And that fixed the problem.
