Fill pattern - tubesheet

Post by Ozymandias »

Hi all,

I've been struggling with this topic. I'm working in the NDT-inspection and I've got a lot of heat-exchanger.
There are always some drawing but they are not useful for me. I used to use Solidworks for ages and SW had this feature:

https://ideametrics.co.in/tubesheet-fill-pattern-types/

Today, my CAD resources are limited and I'm pretty new in Freecad too

I only know the following parameters:
- pattern - triangle, mostly 30 degrees
- dimension of the tube
- number of the tubes

Is there any possibility to do something with Freecad too - based on the known parameters (pattern, dimension of the tube and number of the tubes?)

Thank you for your help

Closest thing I can think of would be the circular array in draft workbench. There is no automatic boundary limiting, but with circular faces that should not be an issue.

For the triangular type you could use 2 rectangular arrays, alternating rows. Setting it up will be tedious. Once you have them configured to your liking you can use Part workbench compound explode to get at the individual elements, creating a new compound from the ones you want to use.

Here I deleted the ones I didn't want and created a new compound from the remaining:
