Hi all
I would like to propose the idea to host on the main freecad website a gallery of selective work.
This has the ability
To better showcase what freecad could do
Upload larger files (the forum has a 1mb limit)
Can be sorted into categories
Particularly for new users looking into freecad this would be a very helpful source.
I took a little of inspiration from
https://www.blender.org/download/demo-files/
My own French press project is around 300 MB incl photos for 3D photogrammetry and would be an example for a demo file that starts with a object scan and finished with a new clean cad model.
Just as an example - not advocating my model here.

Re: Selective work gallery - freecad main website
- Is there a business plan, i.e. what does it cost?
- Only showing would not be enough for me. The models should be accompanied by a tutorial. It wouldn't have to be as detailed as a beginner's tutorial though.
A Sketcher Lecture with in-depth information is available in English, auf Deutsch, en français, en español.

It's a good idea.

I like the idea too. Yes, there's the showcase forum but many great projects are getting lost in there I think. And a website visitor isn't going to see it before taking a dive into the forum.
I like the idea of the bundle model + tutorial. But I think a missing tutorial wouldn't be a dealbreaker. Because the models could show what's possible.

At one moment, there was discussions to host code/packages files at CERN, is it still an option ? if yes that could be the host solution.

Chris I think what you are looking for are wiki tutorials
A showcase is just featuring selective work and very often is the first place for somebody to spec the capabilities.
It took me few days to notice why primarily you mechanical modeling like shapes and less industrial design surface
and soon I discovered that FC simply lacks here certain tools.
With the show we you can make people judge this faster - or also get inspired by those compete architecture projects done with freecad.
In an ideal world we could have both but we all know realistically this is never going to happen for many various reasons.
Demo files are fine to show case the end result - maybe a brief text documenting the process would be easier to do.
For hosting ? Google drive 1.99$/month is very cheap.
It is 12$/year and has superb control for teams.
Or a different open source hosting - what’s the data package for the plan running the website ?

Re: Selective work gallery - freecad main website
I've just discovered that the showcase link on the website is directing to the showcase forum What I've said before regarding "website users aren't likely to gave it a look" obviously isn't true. I remember the first time I gave a speech about FreeCAD at a local 3D-printing meetup. I've used the feature part of the website to show some examples. I think at that time there were some "bigger" example pictures available.
