Wall has an invalid shape

Post by llerrac »

Hi,
I am trying to learn freecad.
I have had a search for a bug but can't seem to find anything related to 'Wall has an invalid shape'
I have duplicated the issue. I have been using versions 0.19 and 0.20. File with sketch attached. restarts and versions switched made.

Steps: Create a shape in sketcher, switch to Bim view and click create wall. Arch workbench fails in same way

See attachment for sample file. The sketch is made from polyline in form of box with a box cut on corner (patio from house). Then 3 poly lines added inside for rooms, Two poly lines making a internal room in house along longest axis of house, then a poly line from corner of cut out box to first internal room boundary.

The issue does not occur if you delete the short internal wall that extends the external wall on y axis. In sketcher this is element 9-Line in attached file.

I turned on all info in Report View. kind of disappointed there is no other error message.
Creating a curtain wall works fine.

Cheers alex

Welcome :) There is indeed known cases where 'complex' sketch is not translated into ArchWall perfectly.

See below screencapture 1 below - avoid case like that, e.g. more than 2 edges coincident at 1 point. Case in Screencapture 2 is not susceptible to problem. Still, there is some 'self-intersecting' case problem to tackle.

Would like to solve that later when there is a gap.

p.s.

If you find using Sketch with complex edge complicated, you may like to check @yorik Arch/BIM tutorial again to use Draft Wire as Base of Arch Wall. Good luck.

Thanks,

I was going through the BIM guide. I had read it and had been avoiding intersecting lines. thanks for the screen shots, utterly forget i could do that :) . Pictures speak better than words.
