How about starting this macro from a right-click-meny?
It would make it more integrated and simpler to use, just right-clicking and choose "Open as sub-tree" on the thingie you want to appear as a separate pop-up-window.

I'm sure you will get help with it from some kind hearted forum members if you ask them nicely.

Hello,

I have updated treeHelper macro in order to get it working as DockWidget. Now with treeHelper it is possible to open several instances and put it windows integrated with FreeCAD.

Here I am posting a youtube video with treeHelper minitutorial. The current version works in same way but now integrates with FreeCAD window as showed in next image:
