forum section for translators generally

Post by kaktus »

Hello.

Wiki translators have their own section on this forum.
And that's a good thing.
On the other hand, there are no general recommendations for publishing GUI translation topics.
Topics related to this matter are scattered all over the forum in various sub-forums.

It would be good to organize it. This will make it easier to access information for many people working with translations in general.

Topics related to GUI translation will be in one place - I think this will be good.
There are many initiatives for GUI translation that few people know about ...

Let this be a challenge not only for forum administrators.

Would a Wiki subforum be a good place for topics about both Wiki translations and GUIs :?:

Why not.

Would it be the place to ask to change the original wording? Sometimes, it is not clear on crowdin and even if we post some comments on crowdin, I'm fear the owner don't read them.
Do you also have in mind that it would be the place to point out some misfunction of the GUI, in particular when translation are stuck?

In these cases, one need to ping the owner because I think the dev focus on their development and many other stuff and will not give a look to this subforum.

There is a missing forum section for all translation topics in the broad sense.

Until now, many topics have been posted by users and administration in different sections of the forum. It is difficult to find them, and often they are valuable contributions or announcements.

Several active users have commented on this issue. And they gave 100% approval.

Questions to the administrator:
  • is it possible to change the name of this section of the forum, and the description to a more communicative one? (so that translators know that this part of the forum is appropriate and is at their disposal)
  • Is it possible to move some topics to this place as more suitable?

Interesting idea. The amount of subforums is getting a bit overwhelming to keep organized though.

renaming a subforum wouldn't change that, you could name this Wiki Documentation & Translation

@chrisb what do you think? There are some users whom would prefer not to open up a GitHub account. This would offer them a place to post translation related issues.

It's not just about problems, it's about all the information related to the topic of translating everything ...

eg:
https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... &start=100

https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... =9&t=68051

https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... =8&t=48544

https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... 30276a8f5a

see these are just a few of the many valuable topics that few translators know about ...

That's probably a more general problem if people want to report something without a Github account.
