Very interesting. Slice apart was my approach as well, but it didn't work here and I assumed the geometry errors to be the cause.

Using assembly 3 we can (again) not only place it statically in one position, but also simulate angular deflection.
I have modelled just one ball, but it can be easily extended to all 6 balls (I shall leave it to you ;) )
starting with no angular deflection of the joint and the ball in the middle of the slot:

followed by deflecting it 15deg back:

and similarly for 15 deg forward:

as constrained the assembly is left with 3 degrees of freedom - ball can be rotated around it's centre in three axis, while remaining firmly seated in the slot :mrgreen:

Did you check this yourself? It shows still errors here. It isn't even a solid, only a shell.
