Source for wood materials

Post by joelmo »

Wood have different strengths for parallel and perpendicular forces in relation to its grain. Arch have beam/column mode for Structure objects. Maybe this can be used to automatically select wood material. I suggest to add one additional and optional modulus field for perpendicular force.

CalculiX supports orthotropic and anisotropic linear elasticity. It’s just a matter of adding TYPE=ORTHO, TYPE=ENGINEERING COMSTANTS (for orthotropy) or TYPE=ANISO (for anisotropy) to *ELASTIC keyword. It could be done manually, after the input file is exported from FreeCAD but it would be great to have this feature implemented in FEM module as well.

Maybe it's better to have a list of modulus pairs (modulo, angle).

In CalculiX local coordinate systems (rectangular or cylindrical) for definition of ortho/anisotropic material properties are created using *Orientation keyword. This could be implemented as well and should give users more freedom when defining linear elasticity.
