Re: Feature request: Hide backup files.
We should distinguish between - autosave files which are created at certain time intervals to recover from a crash. These are written by FreeCAD to a dedicated directory. These are used to help when FreeCAD makes a mistake - backup files, which are written on every user save. These are currently wr...

Re: Feature request: Hide backup files.
A file, which is no config, cache, setting, systemfile, history, ..... should never be hidden,... ...(because of this reasons). Well, more than reasons, it seems you're mentioning the custom in some programs. ...also never saw that anywhere else, even allowing it as option... Perhaps you should tak...

Re: Feature request: Hide backup files.
Hiding backup files will be a bad service especially for newbies. They could waste many disk space. In my opinion, this would only happen to very new users of FreeCAD. Placing them in a predefined directory could be a better move. Similarly, newcomers should be aware that the backup files are in th...

Re: Feature request: Hide backup files.
I have mentioned it before: I would like to see something similar to the Path postprocessed files: the possibility to specifiy a pattern with placeholders for the directory, the basename, and the number. Is this worth a feature request? +1: I find it to be an excellent plan. Instead of just control...

Re: Feature request: Hide backup files.
You can see *.FCStd1 in your directory and you can think about it. If you don't see them, how newbie will find them ? You're talking about a very particular newbie who might delve into backup files. After this, practically speaking, what uses do you think this kind of newbie could have for them? In...

Re: Feature request: Hide backup files.
Hidden files can always be viewed/edited whenever you decide to do so. By the way, in Unix-like systems, the directories ".config/" and "./local/" are hidden. Within these, you'll find the directories ".config/FreeCAD" and "local/share/FreeCAD," which contain...

Re: Feature request: Hide backup files.
How can you know you have backup if nothing is visible ? FC doesn't tell you anything about it. Hidden files can always be viewed/edited whenever you decide to do so. By the way, in Unix-like systems, the directories ".config/" and "./local/" are hidden. Within these, you'll fin...

Re: Feature request: Names for backup files
Are files starting with a dot considered hidden on Windows? Limited web search says it does not follow the dot convention...ICBW. Considering that many users choose to have far more than the default of 1 backup file, I'd guess many do use them. I think I should modify the title of this topic. My po...

Re: Feature request: Names for backup files
The average user should be aware of these files therefore hiding them makes no sense IMO. In your opinion, what would the average user use backup files for? Who do you think uses backup files more frequently: the average user or the FreeCAD program? Do you think it's a bad idea for them to be hidde...
